Which new metal detector to try?

I’ve gotta have a new detector. The ones I have work fine, but I’ve gotta have a new one. I’m investigating the Minelab Explorer SE, the White’s DFX, and the Fisher F75. I need depth - for deep coins around old house sites I’ve hunted, and for artillery shells that are too deep for my present detectors. Anyone have an opinion, or can offer another choice???

  1. I would really suggest buying a Minelab Explorer SE The Explorer line of metal detectors has done good by me for the last 4 or so years. In fact I am still impressed and sometimes in disbelief at what these metal detectors can do. Ive used many, but can honestly say Minelabs Explorer series of detectors are KING!

  2. Howdy, I recently purchased an SE. The machine looks and sounds very impressive. Unfortunately, you must be some kind of techno wizard to understand it. I’ve spent over 10 hrs and dug a few coins and some trash. Everytime I have gone out with it I have wanted to wrap it around a tree. Last time I checked a hobby was supposed to be fun. Well its no laughs and giggles with the SE. I completely agree with this post http://treasurehunter.booklocker.com/2007/04/29/minelab-explorer-se-loser/
I’m sure the machine works well in the hands of someone qualified, but today that qualification eludes me. Yesterday I spent ALL DAY trying to get some idea how it works and I really lost my cool. I went back home picked up my old Whites 6000 because I know how it works. I don’t know what to say other than perhaps try one out before dropping $1200 on it or look for mine at the bottom of some cliff.

  3. PMD/DavyKeith - This is really rather humorous… One of you hates the SE, the other LOVES it. Well, the same thing happens with women, too, love ‘em or hate ‘em. Sorry, PMD, I have to side with Davy - the SE is one detector I never want to handle again. Thanks for both your comments.
