Fisher F75 has arrived

The new Fisher F75 just arrived today, June 11, after being delayed for over a month due to “lacking a part.” This is the machine I bought to replace the Minelab Explorer SE with which I had such a poor experience. Over the next few days I’ll try it out (if the weather’s not too hot nor the vines too thick) with a report on my experience with it coming sometime over the next week or two. Stay tuned.

  1. Hey there!
Stumbled across your blog looking for SE and F75 comparisons. I’ve been debating between the two, and can’t decide….and I found your posts interesting to say the least. I was advised by a very well known and respected helpful dealer on one of the MD forums to stick with the Explorer SE and really learn how to use it before giving up. Haha!
He also said it would probably be easier for me to learn because I’m a newbie to all of this and don’t really have to unlearn anything else! That an I’m a bit of a technology geek so that might help….

Well, I’m still trying to decide which one to get. My fiance is getting an F4, so if I got the F75, it would be an advantage when it comes to sharing coils (I hear there are different sizes finally made for these Fisher models). But I fear there are many more options I’d love on the SE….and I’m thinking it probably works better in shallow salt water….which is important to me.

After you’ve tested out the F75, I’d love to hear your experience and comparison. Off the top of your head, what are the feature differences in the two?

Thanks so much….will keep checking back. Have fun!!!!

    :-)

  2. Hi, Catherine. I’ll be glad to give you my opinion of the F75, but it’s based on only ONE field trip thus far, and that was not even remotely similar to what might be experienced in shallow salt water. With that in mind, though, let me start by saying my experience in the deep woods with the SE and the F75 are exact opposites, i.e., I hated the SE and I LOVE the F75. The F75 is 1)well-balanced and LIGHT, especially important, I would suggest, for a female, 2) Extremely sensitive - the most sensitive machine I’ve ever used, 3) a joy to tune - the LCD screen is very intuitive and well designed and, once you’ve read the manual and understand the functions, very easy to make adjustments to, and 4) pinpointing, unlike the erratic and maddening SE, is generally quite easily accomplished. So… The advice I would give you is… Don’t even consider the SE! Buy an F75! Again, my opinion is based on one non-salt-water outing. I plan on writing a detailed analysis of the F75’s performance after several more field trips, so please check back in a couple of weeks. Good luck to you, Malcolm
